Some History Lessons

When I was just a little boy, my parents have bough an electronic organ. My dad played a lot of famous songs on it and I often was watching him play. Sometimes I played with the organ myself (as for pressing keys withouth caring for the end result. But hey! I was a little kid back then.) One day when I was 5 years old, I decided to actually trying to figure out how that organ works. So I was pressing some buttons hearing various sounds. What I noticed was, the more I went to the right, the higher the sound was. The more I went to the left, the lower the sound was. With this in mind I started to recreate one of the songs I knew. First finding the first key, then finding out how much to the right I needed to go in order to find the next key. Soon after that I was able to play that song. Ofcource I made some errors, but instead of beginning from start I continued to see how the song was. This organ also has a 2nd keypad for the left hand. Since my dad always plays both, I tried to play one of his songs. First I found the notes then I was going to try playing it with the left hand also. it was so well played that my mother though that my dad was playing.

When my brother went to Elementary School he got in touch with the trackers scene, and brough that home. This is how I got to know about the trackers scene in the first place. Just before I went to Elementary School, in the summer holidays, I got the tracker of my brother, Fast Tracker and wanted to track for myself. I couldn't do it as I didn't understand how it worked. (I believe that was still FT1) Then my brother got a program called Ed001.exe or something, which has the appearance of impulsetracker but was different. When I was about to try that out, he gave me Scream Tracker2. I started to work with that program and got it quite under control. After that he found an update and gave me Scream Tracker 3, with the new S3M format.

During Elementry School, I started as a tracker. Besides the tracking I made graphics and I was programming. I though, if I ever want to bring this to the world, I'llneed to find myself a descent nickname, with a nice logo. After long thinking, I ended up with Chip. This name suited alot of interest I have. For instance, I like electronic equipment, I like the sound of chip tunes, and non the less, I like to eat chips aswell. Ofcource a good name is only good when it isn't used by anyone else. So I did a google search for Chip and it ended up with way too many results, simply because chip is a real name. Still I was quite attached to that name. it was then that I decided to add my initials to my nick name. Since those are LP, I became known as LPChip. (that explains the use of caps also.)

When I went to highschool, iCT. I kept making music. One day a friend of mine told me that his friend was selling his old keyboard, and asked if I was interested. We're talking about a Yamaha PSR-300. He showed me that keyboard and I decided to buy it. it took me my savings, but I am still glad I did it! During my school period, I got high grades for the iCT classes, but the others were less that good. I lost the interest to study since I knew most of the lessons already from my own experiences. Because of this, I decided to quit school, and went to work. I started to work at a company called Netwerk Automatisering, where I was a network administrator. My job was to create networks and maintain them. During this job I earned enough to take a broadband internet connection.

During some surfing on the web I ended up with http://www.modplug.com and I decided to register, and send in one of my songs. The song I send in was To Come. After a few days, I received an email that my song was added to the new releases page. A few days later boomerang had listened to my song, and decided to give me comments. He wrote: Hmmm... not much variation in this choon. And that's nasty, since this song goes on for over 7 minutes! I luv the chips in this choon, but you should've used some variation in de melodiez, basses and especially beats. it's a great effort, without a doubt, but it starts to bore rather fast, and that's too bad, since this song could kick ass!

Reading these comments made me very happy. Why? because someone took the time to download my song, vote for it, and give me feedback on it. therefore I decided to email him back explaining that I was greatfull for his comments, and that I agreed what he said. He replied back that my response was a good one, and that having an attitude as I had, could make me a great tracker. After those emails we got eachother's msn addres, and we got in contact live. He told me that I should go to the modplug forums, to spam some of my newer music, but also to get in contact with other trackers.

Through modplug forums and through boomerang, I got to know a lot of trackers. Some of them have though me things, and others inspired me. Being part of the scene made me grow in my music rapidly. SaMPLeMaSTeR for instance told me how to work with High Quality Samples, and because of him, Im holding great value to quality. Atlantis also for telling me how to work with VST's and how to master. Without him, I wouldn't have found the need to seek for realism. There are a lot of other people who have supported me by listening to my music and giving me their comments. Guys, thank you very much for helping me with my journey. In return, I'll produce great music. Deal?
